Newgate Shopping Centre is proud to announce the launch of its very first Giving Tree initiative, set to run from 15 November to 20 December 2024. This new annual tradition aims to support local charities and assist those most in need during the festive season.
Located prominently facing the Newgate Street entrance, the Giving Tree provides a straightforward way for shoppers to contribute. Visitors can select a tag from the tree, each representing a specific gift, and donate the corresponding unwrapped item. Donations should be placed in the baskets available in each store within the centre. All gifts must be unwrapped to ensure they are easily distributed. The final day for drop-offs is 20 December.
Andrew Lee, Newgate Shopping Centre Manager said, “We are excited to launch our first Giving Tree and are committed to making this an annual tradition. As a central part of the Bishop Auckland community, Newgate Shopping Centre supports Cornerstone, NASSL Pet Charity, and Woodhouse Community Centre and Church. This initiative allows us to give back in meaningful ways, ensuring that both people and their pets receive the support they need during the festive season.”
The inaugural Giving Tree brings together three esteemed local charities:
- Cornerstone provides essential assistance to individuals and families facing homelessness and financial hardship, offering shelter, meals and vital services.
- NASSL Pet Charity is dedicated to the welfare of animals, delivering rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming services to pets in distress across County Durham. NASSL also helps pet owners keep their beloved animals during challenging times.
- Woodhouse Community Centre and Church serves as a welcoming hub for community gatherings, support services and spiritual guidance, fostering a strong sense of belonging among residents.
Donations will be collected by the charities in the days leading up to Christmas, ensuring that gifts reach those in need in time for the holidays. Shoppers are encouraged to take a tag from the Giving Tree and drop off the corresponding unwrapped gift in any store’s donation basket within Newgate Shopping Centre.
